SBS television hour
Land taken, disease, missionaries, homes burnt, and the forced removal of families... the people of Western Cape York Peninsula have had many challenges.
What came next would change their country forever leaving a void that would be difficult if not impossible to fill. For 40 years the Aboriginal communities of the Western Cape fought to be recognised by one of the world’s largest mining companies in a David Vs Goliath battle. In 2001, a landmark agreement was signed by the Aboriginal people of Western Cape York and COMALCO and things began to change.
